Windows 95, 98, Me

  1. Dial-Up Networking → Make New Connection. Enter the number.
  2. Properties → Server Types: PPP. Uncheck Log on to network, NetBEUI and IPX/SPX.
  3. TCP/IP Settings: server-assigned address; name server 9.9.9.9.

Windows 2000, XP

  1. New Connection Wizard → Connect to the Internet → Set up manually → Dial-up modem.
  2. Properties → Security → Advanced: allow Unencrypted password (PAP) only.

Mac OS 7.5–9

  1. Modem: select your modem and port.
  2. TCP/IP: connect via PPP, configure using PPP server, enter the name server.
  3. Remote Access: enter the login and number. Do not use a command-line host.

Troubleshooting

Busy
All modems in use. Check status.
No carrier
Force a lower standard: AT+MS=V34 (33.6k) or AT+MS=V32B (14.4k). US Robotics: AT&N.
Drops at login
Use PAP. Disable terminal/login scripts.
Login fails
Member accounts use the user number and PIN from self-service.
